Product Care & Setup
Product Care & Setup
Your handmade wool product may arrive slightly compressed after its journey from Nepal. This is completely normal — a gentle reshape is all it takes. Choose your product below.
Cat Caves
Reshaping
Insert both hands
Place both hands inside the cave and gently press outward in all directions to open up the space.
Flatten the base
Set the cave on a flat surface and press the base down firmly so it sits level and stable.
Round the walls
Work around the outside, gently pressing and moulding the walls into a smooth dome shape.
Adjust the entrance
Gently press the entrance opening into a round or oval shape. Allow the cave to rest for a few minutes.

What to do if the cave remains flattened
The cave won't hold its shape
Dense shipping compression occasionally makes the wool fibres set flat. Try this:
- Dampen a clean cloth with cool water and press it lightly against the outside walls to relax the fibres.
- While slightly damp, re-mould the cave with your hands and hold the shape for 30 seconds.
- Allow to dry completely before your cat uses it — usually 1–2 hours.
If the cave still won't hold shape after drying, please contact us with your order number and a photo.
Everyday care & cleaning
Removing loose fur
- Lint roller — most effective. Roll in one direction across the surface.
- Rubber glove — dampen slightly and wipe. Hair clumps for easy removal.
- Soft brush — use light strokes in one direction.
- Vacuum — upholstery attachment on a low setting. Avoid pressing hard on the cave walls.
Spot cleaning
For small marks or light soiling:
- Dampen a clean cloth with cool water and a small amount of wool-safe detergent.
- Gently dab the area — do not rub or scrub.
- Rinse by dabbing with plain cool water, then press dry with a clean towel.
- Reshape while slightly damp and allow to air-dry fully before use.
Deeper cleaning
Avoid: hot water, bleach, machine washing on a standard cycle and tumble drying. Heat and agitation cause permanent shrinkage.
For heavier soiling, a gentle hand-wash works well:
- Fill a basin with cool or lukewarm water (below 30 °C / 86 °F) and a little wool-safe detergent.
- Submerge the cave and gently squeeze water through — no twisting or wringing.
- Rinse in clean cool water until no suds remain.
- Roll in a dry towel to press out excess water — never wring.
- Reshape immediately while damp. Dry flat in a ventilated spot, away from direct heat or sunlight. Allow 24–48 hours to dry fully.
Correct drying
- Always dry flat — hanging distorts wet wool.
- Reshape the cave while still slightly damp; it holds the form as it dries.
- Keep away from radiators, fireplaces and direct sunlight — all cause uneven shrinkage and colour fade.
- Ensure the cave is completely dry before your cat uses it to prevent mildew.
Open Beds & Baskets
Reshaping
Flatten the base
Place the bed on a flat surface and press the base down firmly with both hands.
Ease the sides
Gently press the sides outward and upward into their natural rounded shape. Work around the rim evenly.
Adjust handles or rim
If your bed has handles or a rolled rim, press these back into position. Allow the bed to rest for a few minutes.

Everyday care & cleaning
Removing fur & freshening
- Remove fur with a lint roller, soft brush or vacuum on a low setting.
- Shake outdoors occasionally to remove loose debris.
- Air near an open window for a few hours when needed — 100% wool manages moisture and odour naturally.
- If the base flattens with regular use, a gentle reshape with your hands restores it.
Spot cleaning
Same method as cat caves — cool water, wool-safe detergent, gentle dabbing. Reshape while damp and air-dry flat.
Wool Toys
Cleaning
Quick freshen-up
Spot-clean small marks with cool water and a drop of wool-safe detergent. Dab gently, rinse with plain cool water, then press dry and air-dry fully before returning to your cat.
Hand-wash
Submerge in cool water with wool-safe detergent. Gently squeeze — no rubbing. Rinse well, press in a towel to remove excess water, then air-dry away from heat. Toys must be completely dry before use.
Toy Safety
Our wool toys are handmade for cats and are not children's toys. Please follow these guidelines.
Always supervise your cat during play, especially with a new toy.
Check toys before each play session. Remove and replace any toy that is torn, damaged or has become small enough to swallow.
Always remove the hangtag and any attached ties or strings before giving a toy to your cat.
All toys use azo-free, non-toxic dyes. Safe for cats to nuzzle, bat and carry.
Store toys out of reach when unsupervised, particularly for cats that chew aggressively.
100% New Zealand wool with no plastic, glue or synthetic fill. If your cat has a known wool sensitivity, consult your vet before use.
